Too Young, Too Old

I've just realized that one is never immune from condescension. Nope. Not ever. As children, we're told: "You're too young. You'll understand when you're older." Then, when we've graduated to adulthood, with all of its responsibilities and learning experiences, and we actually do begin to understand, we're told: "Oh, as you get older, you'll see I'm right, sweetie." And then, when we finally have enough gray hair to make that last line ridiculous, we're told: "But you're too old to understand anything!"

Argh. Condescending comments really chap my hide.
